Why assessment
To help develop a quality strategy a formal assessment of quality provides a guide for improvement:
1-The size of quality issue
2-The areas demanding attention
Assessment of quality comprises:
1- Cost of poor quality.
2- Standing in the marketplace.
3- Quality culture in the organization.
4- Operation of the company quality system.
These constitute an analysis of a firm’s quality status in terms of SWOT and become a formal part of the analysis for overall operation.

C. of P. Q. is the annual monetary loss of products and processes that are not achieving their quality objective.
Cost of Poor Quality
Reasons for cost of poor quality:
1- Quantifying the size of quality problem in the language of money improves among managers.
2-Major opportunities for cost reduction can be identified (evaluation of vital few segment).
3- Opportunities for reducing customer dissatisfaction (warranty).
4- Not measuring this cost, do not provides a means of evaluating the progress of quality improvement and obstacle elimination.
5- Knowing the cost of poor quality leads to the expansion of a strategic quality plan.
